How do you differ from TruGreen or Other Competitors?
At Portage Turf we use a organic hybrid approach to lawn care. While some of our competitors may offer reduced rates with additional applications this is typically because they tend to use liquid fertilizers. Liquid fertilizers can do great short term but typically their effectiveness is in a shorter time frame then a good organic extended-release granular fertilizer . Also we utilized state-licensed technicians who can customize their lawns through the season as we get away from the one mix fits all approach. This approach in conjunction with our free soil analysis allows us to provide our customers with thicker greener lawns as we treat from the roots up.

When Should A Grub Control Be Applied and What Does It Cover?
There are multiple species of grubs located in Ohio with the most common being the larvae of Japanese Beetles. Because Japanese Beetles start showing themselves in the summer this is the best time to get a grub control applied. This service also offers coverage of flea/ticks and helps suppress damage from other surface level insects such as spiders and armyworms. This service many times saves our customers hundreds of dollars as insect damage can many times lead to heavy overseeding's in the fall.

Do You Offer Spring Aeration and Overseeding?
Spring aeration and overseeding can cause many issues. Including either breaking a preemergent barrier or not being able to apply preemergent as this will kill any seed that is laid down. For shaded lawns we do offer a frost seeding service that is done in late winter/early spring that does a great job of thickening these areas as the seasonal frost and snow will act as an insulator for the seed and will pull the seed into the sol. For customers who really want a spring aeration and seeding we do offer select spring lawn restorations that will meet these needs.
